Is Harry Styles in Danger?

Harry Styles is a name which most people are familiar, whether they know of him from One Direction, his solo music or his acting: he’s become very much a household name and the most commercially successful member to come out of One Direction. No one is saying the other boys haven’t had success because they absolutely have, but not on the scale Harry has experienced and that’s okay. However, does this excess fame on Harry’s part come with a price? Is there something going on behind the scenes that is dangerous or problematic for Harry? This is what I’m going to explore in this article because what we can see happening to Harry is not only worrying, but also could potentially be putting him in danger. 

What do I mean by this? I know that many of you will be asking this, and I will explain, but I want you to cast your mind back to 2021 and the never ending stunt with Olivia Wilde. This stunt put Harry front and centre with a problematic person and he was constantly in the press. There were constant (and I do mean constant) pap walks. They were always being ‘spotted’ by fans and the paps. There were also constant articles about their supposed love, but when fans saw Harry, they noticed something altogether different from what the media were trying to sell. 

Harry looked stressed, extremely slim and uncomfortable during most of the ‘organic’ pictures and as soon as they’d moved beyond the camera Harry would step away. There was also a video of Harry where Olivia grabbed his arm and pushed it up around her shoulders. Harry would appear to dissociate at times while out with her and was never seen unless he was with his management team/handlers. We all noticed Harry becoming withdrawn and while he was almost his usual self on stage, there was also a noticeable change at the shows Olivia attended. She was after as much attention as possible and would dance about to ensure fans saw her and notice she was there. 

Next up is the stalking incidents of Harry in 2019, 2022 and then again recently. Harry is clearly not safe while at home, especially since he does the same walks in London and is papped a lot while in London. We all know Harry had an injunction against the press and paparazzi in London but we’ve all seen an upsurge in the ‘organic’ pictures of Harry that have been posted, especially while he was stunting with Olivia and now with Taylor Russell.

Harry isn’t safe or as well protected as he should be while in London. This in turn is leading  crazed fans to try and track him down. Although there have been three separate incidents and two different stalkers, why are his team not protecting him? How are these people getting access to his properties and is something more insidious going on because Harry is Sony’s golden goose so why are stalkers able to get such easy access to him? Isn’t it worrying that John Lennon was murdered at the hands of a crazed fan, yet here we are in 2024 witnessing one of the biggest celebrities in the world being harassed, stalked and intimidated. What if the next time this happens, it’s someone with a grudge or with harmful intent? Harry’s management team and label need to get their fingers out and protect him or is this happening because they want it to?

Harry was on the never ending tour between late 2021 and 2023: two full years of touring, filming two movies where he was the lead and acting as a side character in a third, while stunting, writing and recording music and album promotion as well. I’m exhausted just writing that. When did Harry get any time off? When did he get time to be just Harry and not his brand? This incredibly busy time would have pushed anyone to their limits and while we know as fans Harry loves touring and playing live, he was also pushed so hard he ended up incredibly unwell which wasn’t really a surprise. 

Further to this there were a number of questionable incidents that happened while Harry was performing that could have caused serious injury to him or could have resulted in death. The first incident I’m including was when he was touring in December 2022 when a fan got up on the stage with him. This was extremely dangerous and how this person got past the venue security is baffling and appalling. During Harry’s Mexico run there was also an incident where his tour equipment van was stolen which in and off itself isn’t that worrying, but when you add it to the incident on stage, it shows a ridiculous lack of control over the tour, but who’s at fault? Harry’s label, tour manager or management team? We don’t know, but it is worrying.

Another incident that occurred in 2023 was in late January during the rescheduled LA shows when the trap door to the stage was left open and Harry was almost caught unawares as he moved across the stage. If it hadn’t been for his incredibly quick reflexes he could have fallen down the trap door causing himself extreme injury or even death. It was incredibly worrying to watch as he moved towards the door and only managed to jump over it at the last minute and none of his fans want to think about what could have happened had he fallen. 

Next up there was the Grammy awards and fans of Harry’s noticed his entire demeanor was off during the red carpet and the show itself. Harry was uncomfortable on the red carpet and then was sexually assaulted on camera by one of his co-writers before being made fun of by the presenter during the live show. The presenter made a joke about Harry being a sex symbol, but anyone who’s ever paid any attention to Harry at all knows that those comments make him incredibly upset and uncomfortable. Pair that with the fact that Harry was there only with his management team and handlers. No family or friends were present which given that other celebrities had their significant others or family present must have been upsetting and unsettling for Harry. 

Harry was ever the consummate professional and then got up on stage to perform As It Was. The performance went okay, but fans could tell Harry was off during the performance; was it nerves or upset? Apparently not. The dancers spoke out about how the turntable that the dance was to be performed on went in entirely the wrong direction leaving Harry and the dancers scrambling to try to perform. They maintained their professionalism, but it must have been incredibly unnerving on one of the biggest nights of Harry’s career for the stage to be sabotaged as it was. Someone would have had to go underneath the turntable and change the direction, but why? To make a fool of Harry? Or something worse?

All of these little things add up to a worrying pattern, especially when we had fans hit him with things while on stage, including one time when he was hit in the eye with skittles. Harry’s not treated by all his fans with the kindness or respect he deserves and he is an incredible performer, one of the kindest and most highly thought of celebrities there is, but is he in danger? Are his team and label trying to sabotage him or allow others to hurt him? Over the past year we’ve seen Harry out and about with little security and only Brad Gould or James Corden for company. Are these people actually friends or are they just handlers of a different variety? No one knows, but one thing is for sure, Harry needs to be protected and if his team and label can’t ensure his safety then they shouldn’t be doing the jobs they are doing. 

Celebrities are often in danger from overzealous fans, crazed fans-  but from their own teams? It does seem extreme, however we all know that the One Direction boys have been treated dreadfully in the past. Is this just another example of the extremes of fame or is it something deeper and dangerous? You decide, but one thing is for sure, if anything happens to Harry because of a lack of protection then his team will be dragged to hell and back by the fans. One thing about the fans of Harry Styles is that they are fiercely protective of him and I’m not sure his management team or label fully understand the depth of adoration and love we, as fans, have for Harry. 

And now as of tonight there are rumours about Harry returning. We don't know as of yet whether these rumours will be substantiated, but it's left a lot of fans worried for him. He's only had a break since July and even then he was working and being seen almost daily for a while. Will he come back under Sony? As a client of Full Stop? Has his break been long enough to recharge? Is he being forced to come back? Either way it's got us worried and we can only hope that his contract terms will be better now, but I guess we'll need to wait and see. 

Let’s just hope these are all just coincidences, especially if he is in fact recording new music- but we all must remain vigilant because Harry is important to all of us in the fandom and beyond. He has a wide-reaching influence and impact on people and we can only hope he's taking care of himself and that those around him aren't taking advantage of his kind nature to force him to do things that he doesn't want to do. 

Harry gives us a place of safety so let's give him that in return, and treat him with kindness, love and respect.
