Simon Cowell; Friends in Low Places
When you are Simon Cowell it’s not clear what is important to you. Is it money? Your image? Your name? Your friends? The control you have? Or the TV Shows you run? I don’t think any of us really know what is important to Simon Cowell and I doubt we ever will; however what we do know is that there’s a very dark side to Simon Cowell.
When you’re someone as famous as Simon Cowell, there is a certain thirst by the general public to know who your friends are and who you keep in your inner circle. Many people over the years, especially in the past 10 - 15 years have come forward about abuse that has happened from those in Cowell’s inner circle of friends and associates.
In 2010 when you looked at Simon- you’d see a powerful man who was at the top of the world with top billing shows in the X Factor and American Idol. He was the judge everyone wanted to impress and the one you could rely on to tell the truth about the talent of the acts; however behind the scenes, things were darker- contestants were lied to, manipulated and coerced into signing contracts with cleanliness clauses and closets built into them.
In fact those contracts that were signed in 2010 and beyond, have life long conditions imposed and as Louis Walsh, a close friend and confidant of Cowell stated, younger people will do anything you say at the start of their careers. Louis Walsh, himself stated in an interview that had he known Steven Gately and Mark Feehily were gay, he wouldn’t have allowed them to sign as part of Boyzone and Westlife.
Further Simon’s Syco music was the label that all X Factor acts signed to post show, along with Modest Management and a choice of three Legal firms that were presented to the acts as a group during the early stages of the TV talent show. This clearly was unethical and allowed the show runners, Syco music and Modest management to give artists the worst possible contracts since it’s very possible the legal firms wouldn’t act in the best interest of the acts as it would mean that they wouldn’t get more of the show’s acts in future if they did.
Another aspect of Simon Cowell that causes concern is the fact that a number of his friends and those close to him in the media are predators. Jonathan King was a music producer, singer and songwriter who Simon Cowell paid £50,000 bail for.Johnathan King’s career ended in 2001 when he was convicted of the sexual assault of five teenage boys. He was further acquitted of 22 similar charges. The fact that these charges were brought at all shows that they had enough evidence to proceed to trial but not enough to convict which shows the type of person King was. Plus the fact that Cowell supported him shows that he didn’t care about how it appeared to the public, although I don’t believe it’s a well known fact that he supported a pedophile and paid his bail.
Another of Simon’s friends was Max Clifford who was a well known English publicist and worked in PR representation. He worked with Simon Cowell for many years and even appeared in Louis Theoroux’s documentary stating that the best way to hide someone’s sexuality was to put them in a long term relationship with someone of the opposite sex. Clifford was arrested in 2012 under Operation Yewtree and convicted in 2014 for eight counts of sexual assault of girls between 15 and 19 years old.
When looking back on more of Simon’s friendships or colleagues there is David Walliams who was recorded making inappropriate comments during filming of Britain's Got Talent. Walliams also has been filmed committing acts of sexual assault on stage to young men, although no charges have currently been filed. However, that doesn’t excuse his frankly abhorrent behaviour over the years and one should hope that one day soon charges will befall Walliams.
Another of Cowell’s friends is Dan Wootten who last year was accused of rape and sexual assault, but the case was dropped due to lack of evidence. Sadly the man who was brave enough to come forward and lead the charge committed suicide after he felt failed in many ways by the justice system. Wootten’s name is one that is familiar to many in the One Direction fandoms as he was the one who more often than not broke stories about the boys and any indiscretions or gossip about their lives.
When Katie Waisell reported her assault to Cowell and his team, they wanted Katie to let them control the narrative but Katie refused. Katie stated that her charges were never taken further, however it later happened again at the hands of the same man, Brahim Fourad. Fourad was high up in Syco music and nothing was done until it happened again which just goes to show that had Katie’s allegations been taken seriously this may never have taken place. As it is he’s now he’s in the newspapers as having had an affair with someone on reality TV, but was it an affair or was it a coverup for sexual abuse yet again?
When looking into Simon Cowell there is an alarming consistency of predators in his friendship groups and it seems that given time, more will be exposed. I’ll leave it to you all to decide whether there is an alarming pattern in his relationships or whether it’s just a coincidence that a large number of his friends have been accused of, charged or convicted of sexual assault.
Let me know what you think and remember these are matters of public record.
